Oobleck is a special mixture of powders created to replicate real quicksand. The texture will blow your mind. Simply adding water turns the powder into a goo that can be both a liquid and a solid. Scientists call this type of substance “non-Newtonian” because it doesn’t follow Newton’s laws. Sir Isaac Newton would have been so confused. Due to an exclusive pigment used in our Oobleck, it even glows under black light.
What does it teach?
When you slap the Oobleck mixture, you force the long starch molecules closer together. The impact of this force traps the water between the starch chains to form a semirigid structure. When the pressure is released, the Oobleck flows again. This concoction is an example of a suspension (a mixture of two substances), one of which is finely divided and dispersed in the other. In the case of Oobleck, it’s a solid dispersed in a liquid.

It’s a Liquid That Behaves Like a Solid on Command.
When force is applied to the fluid, it behaves like a sold. When little or no force is applied to the fluid, it behaves like a liquid.
Easy To Mix – Just Add Water!
Add water in small amounts and continue mixing until desired consistency is achieved.
Use Under a Black Light For More Science Fun!
Due to an exclusive pigment, our yellow, green, pink, blue, and orange Oobleck glows under black light.

Peggy, the Oobleck produces a pound of quicksand effect. I would say it would be good for up to two students to complete the activity. We have six different colors for purchase.

joshlittrell –
Hello Dave, Once you’re done using the Oobleck I would suggest to wash your hands with a mild soap several times. Let your hands dry and then repeat the washing process. The color should be removed in a few washings. Have a great evening.
