Growing Body Parts Experiment
An Essential for the At-Home Lab
When kids think of scientists, they think of strange specimens floating in jars filled with murky liquid. These jars come with a brain, hand, foot and even an ear. The best part is that these body parts start small and grow bigger the longer they stay in the water, until they reach their maximum size.
How Big Do They Grow?
Each body part starts out around 2 inches in length and grows to human proportions or a little bigger. The body parts should reach their maximum size after seven days of pickling in water. In this kit, you’ll receive a half-gallon, wide-mouth specimen lab jar made out of clear plastic, perfect to hold your young scientist’s growing body parts.
How Does It Work?
Growing body parts are made with two different polymers: a hydrophilic, superabsorbent polymer and a hydrophobic polymer.

Perfect mix of cool and gross for older kids. They really do grow to life size ….or bigger! Great experiment my 12 year old plans to display in his room and freak out his friends! Look cool with green dye and black light too.

What happens to the body parts when you remove them? Do they stay the larger size? Are you able to keep them to use for a body study or do they fall apart?
