Story Time Slime™ Online is more than just a collection of great hands-on activities, it’s a whole new way to teach science through the medium of children’s literature. Discover why SCIENCE is the great melting pot of each and every discipline you teach, especially reading. Because of Julie and Steve’s unique approach and classroom-tested methods, you’ll teach more science this year that you’ve ever taught before… guaranteed!
The final version of the Next Generation Science Standards were released in April 2013. Over the past few months, our team has been working feverishly to align the Story Time Slime curriculum with these newly released standards. In addition to the science standards, we know that many of you are looking for creative strategies for connecting more hands-on science with the Common Core reading, writing and math objectives. That’s why we are very excited to share these integration strategies and creative methods for making science even more fun and meaningful for your students in the coming years.
Join Julie Gintlzer and Steve Spangler for a hands-on training that will help you make meaningful connections between elements of the story in classic pieces of children’s literature to hands-on activities that open the door for exploration. This online training is designed with one guiding principle in mind… teachers learn best by doing! Julie’s approach to teaching children and teachers is the same – make it hands-on and get involved.
You’ll personally conduct more than 20 hands-on activities that are focused around the themes of air, water, color, weather, the five senses, push and pull, nutrition and every day observations. Each activity is easily related to the national standards and helps you teach the basic skills of science inquiry – to count, compare, classify, observe and measure (the C.C.C.O.M. approach). Julie and Steve deconstruct every experience to give you the strategies for presenting the literature in a way that provokes questions in the minds of the children, and then they teach you how to build the science connection that invites children to ask even more questions.
Julie Gintzler is an early childhood science specialist who combines her passion for teaching hands-on science with her love for great children’s literature to create incredible learning opportunities for children. Steve Spangler takes his 25 years of experience as a science teacher and draws on Julie’s vast knowledge of children’s literature to collectively create the perfect hands-on science activities that turn elements of the story into something real in the classroom. Best of all, Julie and Steve make the online learning experience totally fun and engaging. Be prepared to laugh a little and learn a lot.
The learning strategies are appropriate for the classroom teacher (Pre-K through 2nd grade), librarians, before and after school child care providers, enrichment specialists, Head Start educators or even a parent helper. But this is a must watch experience for any executive director or administrator who wants to better understand the proven strategies for building powerful connections between science and children’s literature. In other words, this online training is guaranteed to provide you with a whole new perspective on teaching science.
