Geyser Tube® Mentos and Soda Experiment
The Geyser Tube® is the toy that changed YouTube. The Geyser Tube is a loading tube for the famous Diet Coke eruption powered by Mentos, one of the most viewed science experiments online. Now, you can see this experiment in it’s full glory firsthand and create your own videos to share with others.
If you’ve ever seen a Geyser Tube in action, you know how addicting that wild soda eruption can be. We now have the perfect way to share this exciting gadget with everyone you know — our Geyser Tube event packs.
Can’t get enough Geyser Tube action? Need enough Geyser Tubes for the whole class? Stocking up on Mentos and Geyser Tubes for an explosive science fair project? Event Packs are sold in quantities of 10, 25 or 50 so that you’ll have enough Geyser Tubes and Mentos for any event.
How Does It Work?
Get the perfect launch every time and witness the Mentos and soda reaction for yourself without getting drenched. Attach the Geyser Tube to any plastic, two-liter diet soda bottle. Secure the trigger pin, then load the Mentos into the tube. Once you have locked the pressurizing nozzle in place, pull the pin and clear the area. When the Mentos drop, the soda geyser will shoot as high as 30 feet.
What Does It Teach?
The Mentos tube loader has become an internet sensation, but there is science behind the soda. Check out our Mentos Geyser experiment for the whole story. You can find a variety of Mentos dropper tubes on the market, but what our Geyser Tube is better than all the rest because of the improved trigger mechanism. Our trigger mechanism now has a double pull pin action, making sure there’s no unwanted eruption. No one wants to be covered in sticky soda for an entire day and this ensures you stay clean. When you’re ready to pull the pin, a tighter seal means that you can achieve a 30-foot geyser with as few as two Mentos candies.
Get the Perfect Launch Every Time
With the Geyser Tube, you can easily wow all your friends with cool science demonstrations. When the mentos candies drop into the bottle, the soda geyser will shoot to an incredible height of 30 feet.
The Excitement of Expanding Gas
Carbonated beverages like soda contain gaseous carbon dioxide, which is what makes them so bubbly. However, the water molecules in the soda are like a tight-knit family who like to stick together and they won’t get out of the way for more bubbles to form without some kind of incentive.
In the Geyser Tube® experiment from Steve Spangler Science, mint candies are dropped into the soda and, as they dissolve, the surface tension of the water is disrupted and carbon dioxide gas blasts into the air. This creates an exciting geyser for all to see, and with the Geyser Tube, this eruption can reach 30 feet, so that children can see the true power of released gas.
Aspiring scientists can vary the experiment to see how it all works at different temperatures and with different brands of soda, too.

Science Fair Connection
Setting off a Mentos geyser isn’t, by itself, a science fair project, but there are some very easy ways to make experimenting with soda geysers a great science fair project.
The key to creating an awesome Geyser Tube science fair project is isolating a variable. A variable is a component of the experiment that changes and alters the outcome. Some examples of possible variables with the Mentos Geyser experiment include:
•Try different brands or types of soda and find a way to measure which one erupts the highest.
•Test different numbers of Mentos to find the number of Mentos that creates the tallest geyser.
•Find out what temperature is best for geyser eruptions.
These are just examples of variations that you can try to turn the Mentos Geyser Tube into a science fair project. Remember, you have to keep all other factors the same. If you’re testing different brands of soda, make sure the number of Mentos you use is always the same and that the sodas are kept at the same temperature.

I received my 10 rolls of Mentos and 10 geyser tubes within a week of ordering them. Unfortunately, one of the geyser tubes broke during transit, so I had to call Steve Spangler to report the issue. Joy answered my call and promptly sent me a new geyser tube (with a roll of Mentos!) AND a cartesian diver game as a free gift for the inconvenience….. what a great job of customer service!!!

Question
Jenny –
Can you reuse the tube again and again or do you need a new tube each time you do the experiment?

The Geyser Tube is reusable. The only thing you’ll need to replace is the Soda and the Mentos. After use, make sure to rinse the Geyser Tube under water to clean away any soda residue. Enjoy the experience.

Question
Dana Pethtel –
Could you do this in the winter with snow or would the cold slow it down?

joshlittrell –
Thanks for the question. The Geyser Tube would work in cold or snowy weather. As long as the soda and Mentos are room temperature prior to going outside for the activity. The soda stream will still work. Have fun with the product. Joshua

My science and math club students had a ton of fun with this. They each brought in a 2-liter of soda and got to set it off. We had some extras that we put into the soda and mentos powered car and it flew like the wind! It was a hit!

Question
Melissa –
Can it be any diet soda ? I happen to have diet ginger ale on hand.

Staff lisabrooks –
You encourage you to try any soda. We have just found the Coke brand seems to be the best and we recommend diet so you don’t have a sticky mess to deal with later.

Question
ronald –
can the giser mentos be reused if the soda is collected in the same bottle and rementosed,
(0) (0) Watch Unwatch
Staff lisabrooks –
The soda would not be reusable. You need the carbonation in the soda in order to make it work properly. Good question, though.

I bought this for my 5th grade Cub Scout group while working on our Science pin requirements. The tubes were very easy to use and the boys had a BLAST (no pun intended haha)! The coke shot up so high! Lots of fun.
